ʻONO, Foods of Aloha

ʻONO is a feature-length documentary on the food history of Hawaiʻi foods from “canoe foods” brought by Polynesian settlers to European explorers and missionaries to plantation-era immigrants to Hawaiʻi recipes invented through the plantation and tourism eras.

ʻONO Logo

LOGLINE (Short Version): “ʻOno” means delicious in Hawaiian – but as beloved local eateries close and chain restaurants take their place – “Oh no!” is there hope for Hawaiʻi’s food future? Join a quest to explore the islands’ most iconic dishes to chart a course to the future paradise.

Backstory

At ID8, weʻre currently focused on a trilogy of documentaries that champion the Aloha Spirit through flagship program, Project Shaka that was birthed from our first film in the trilogy, Shaka, A Story of Aloha. That film sparked a movement, and now I’m proud to be in production of our next film, The 100th, Seeds of Aloha, which explores the heroism and legacy of the Purple Heart Battalion in WWII. With ʻONO, we’re completing the trilogy — bringing to life the tastes, traditions, and inventions of Hawaiʻi foods that share Aloha.
