ʻONO is a feature-length documentary that involves a lot of cooking, filming, post production including animated map-making, sound design, editing, closed captions and subtitles.
Preliminary Budget ($400,000)
- $10,000 Pre-Production: brand, website, donation system setup.
- $190,000 Hawaiʻi Production: 60 local interviews & Map-Building Event.
- $100,000 Post-Production: Sound design, editing, titles, animation, fx, color.
- $25,000 Footage Rights: licensing of clips and images.
- $50,000 Promotions/Marketing: Social media, PR, SWAG, film festivals.
- $25,000 Distribution Fees: Legal/fair use, Trademark search, E&O insurance, sales agent, distributor fees.

Produced by ID8, a 501(C)(3) Nonprofit
As a nonprofit production, support by donors and sponsors is eligible for tax deduction status. While we do not render tax advice, we do recommend supporters consult their tax professionals to ensure tax compliance.
All property rights related to the production are held by ID8 as a 501(C)(3) and not by any individuals including ID8ʻs officers, Board Directors and/or staff.
Contributions of Filmmaker Steve Sue
This film is largely the work of producer Steve Sue, who takes zero monetary compensation for his efforts as producer, writer, production designer and talent. His intent is to avoid any potential conflicts of interest. His contributions are not reflected in the Budget so that the cash position of the production is maintained as the primary focus.
In-Kind Contributions
Monetary, in-kind and service contributions will be accepted by this production on an as-needed basis. ID8 reserves the right to accept or reject any offers.
Crew Living Wages
This production seeks to pay living wages to film professionals participating in the production. As a nonprofit, ID8 also seeks to offer internships and growth opportunities to aspiring professionals, for example, in past productions, ID8 has hired many students and recent graduates from the University of Hawaiʻi.

ʻONO, Foods of Aloha is part of the nonprofit Project Shaka film trilogy on the Spirit of Aloha.
